Details

  • Vorbis and Opus: Both codecs found in OGG files are read. Opus audio always runs at 48 kHz, so the MP3 keeps 48 kHz; Vorbis files keep their own rate when MP3 supports it.
  • Second compression: OGG audio is already compressed; the MP3 compresses it again. Choose at least the bitrate of the original.
  • Checked by content: A file named .ogg that really contains something else is recognised and rejected with a clear message.

Frequently asked questions

Can I convert voice messages saved as OGG or OPUS?

Yes. Voice messages from many chat apps are Opus audio in an OGG file, which this page reads.

Which bitrate should I pick?

128 kbps for voice messages, 192 kbps or more for music.

Are tags copied?

Tags such as title, artist, album and cover art are not copied into the new file. The result contains the sound and the technical information a player needs.
