MP4 to MP3

Save the sound of an MP4 file as an MP3, without uploading it.

Your files stay on your device.

Drop your MP4 video to save its sound as MP3

MP3, WAV, FLAC, OGG, M4A, AAC, AIFF and WebM recordings, or MP4, MOV and WebM videos, up to 2 GB.

Recordings are processed on your device. Nothing is uploaded, and your original is never changed.

What happens to your MP4

  • The audio is re-encoded: MP4 audio is usually AAC. It is decoded and encoded again as MP3 at the bitrate you choose, so the result is not a bit-for-bit copy of the original sound. At 192 kbps or more the difference is hard to hear for most material.
  • No audio, no MP3: Screen recordings and some exports have no audio track, often because the microphone or system audio was switched off. The page tells you right away instead of producing a silent file.
  • Your own files only: The tool works on files on your device. It has no way to fetch anything from a website or streaming service.
  • Video is skipped: Only the audio track is read. The video pictures are never decoded, which keeps long files quick.

Frequently asked questions

Can I keep only part of the audio?

Yes. Extract the audio, choose Continue with this recording, then use Trim on the same page.

How large can the MP4 be?

Files up to 2 GB and 2 hours of audio. Only the audio is read, so large video files are fine. A WAV result is capped at about 1 GB, which is roughly 90 minutes of stereo sound.
