M4A to MP3

Convert M4A audio, such as voice memos and iTunes files, to MP3.

Your files stay on your device.

Drop your M4A file to convert it to MP3

MP3, WAV, FLAC, OGG, M4A, AAC, AIFF and WebM recordings, or MP4, MOV and WebM videos, up to 2 GB.

Recordings are processed on your device. Nothing is uploaded, and your original is never changed.

Good to know

  • Voice memos: Voice memos are often mono. They stay mono in the MP3, so 96 or 128 kbps is plenty.
  • Copy-protected files: Old iTunes purchases with copy protection (M4P) cannot be read, and the tool does not try to bypass protection.
  • Videos go elsewhere: An MP4 with a video track is sent to MP4 to MP3, which is made for videos.

Frequently asked questions

Will the MP3 sound worse than the M4A?

A little, in theory, because the audio is compressed a second time. At the same or a higher bitrate than the original, the difference is usually inaudible.

Can I convert Apple Lossless (ALAC) files?

Not yet. ALAC in M4A is recognised and gets a clear message.

Is the memo title copied?

Tags such as title, artist, album and cover art are not copied into the new file. The result contains the sound and the technical information a player needs.
