What to know about splitting

  • Range syntax: Separate ranges with commas. 1-3 means pages 1, 2 and 3; a single number is a single page. Page numbers start at 1, and the message under the field says exactly which part could not be read. Ranges may overlap, so the same page can appear in two parts.
  • File names tell you what is inside: Parts are named after the original file and their pages, for example report-pages-1-3.pdf or report-page-5.pdf, so they stay in order in any folder.
  • Pages and document information travel: Each part contains its pages unchanged and keeps the document information (title, author) of the original. Bookmarks and form fields are not copied into the parts.

Scripts and passwords

Scripts, forms and links in the PDF are never run, submitted or opened. A PDF that needs a password to open is not supported.

Frequently asked questions

Can I make one PDF from only some pages instead?

Yes, in Organize PDF: select the pages and Keep selected. Split PDF makes one file per range.

Can I get the parts without a ZIP file?

Yes. Below the ZIP download there is a button for every single part.

The ZIP file is not compressed further; it only bundles the PDFs so they arrive in one download.

Is there a page limit?

The PDF can have up to 500 pages and be up to 100 MB in size.

Will the parts look different from the original?

No. Pages are copied as they are. Text stays selectable and searchable, and vector graphics stay sharp at any zoom, because nothing is turned into an image.
