How the change is worked out
- Relative to the start: The difference is divided by the start value: from 80 to 100 is +25 %, from 100 to 80 is −20 %.
- Negative start values: The difference is divided by the size of the start value, so a rise from −50 to −25 counts as an increase of 50 %.
- Not from zero: A change from 0 has no percentage; the page says so instead of showing infinity.
Frequently asked questions
Why does +50 % and then −50 % not get me back?
Each step is a percentage of a different value. 100 plus 50 % is 150, and 50 % of 150 is 75, so you end at 75.
Is the difference shown too?
Yes, next to the percentage: from 80 to 95 is +18.75 %, a difference of +15.
