What to expect

  • Malformed escapes are reported: A % without two hexadecimal digits is shown with its position; the text is not changed.
  • UTF-8 is checked: Byte sequences that do not form valid UTF-8, often from old systems using other encodings such as Latin-1, are reported instead of turned into replacement characters.
  • Plus signs: In form data, + means a space; elsewhere it is a real plus sign. The option makes the choice explicit.

Frequently asked questions

Can I decode a URL that was encoded twice?

Yes: decode once, then paste the result and decode again. Each step is shown so you can see when you are done.

Is anything sent to the URL I paste?

No. The text is only decoded; no link is opened or requested.
