ICO to PNG

See every image inside an ICO file and save each size as a PNG.

Your files stay on your device.

Drop an ICO file here

Works with Windows programs and libraries (EXE, DLL, MUN, OCX, CPL, SCR), Windows shortcuts (LNK, URL), ICO and ICNS icon files, and AppImages.

Files are read as data on your device. Programs and apps are never run.

What the list shows

  • Every image: Nothing is skipped. If an icon contains two images of the same size, for example with different colour depths, both are listed.
  • Colour depth: 32-bit images have smooth transparency. 8-bit and lower use a palette and a simple on-or-off transparency mask.
  • Stored as PNG or bitmap: Large sizes are usually stored as PNG and passed on unchanged. Bitmaps are converted to PNG with their transparency.
  • Size 256: The ICO format writes 256 pixels as 0. The real size is read from the image itself.

Where this comes from

Based on the open-source IconGrabber project, a desktop tool by the same author. Its file parsing was rebuilt for the browser.

Frequently asked questions

Is the PNG the same quality as the icon?

Yes. Each PNG has exactly the pixels of the chosen image; nothing is scaled. PNG images inside the icon are saved unchanged.

Can I turn a PNG into an ICO here?

No, this page works in one direction: it reads ICO files and saves PNG images.

Why is one image marked as an uncommon format?

A few icons use rare bitmap encodings, for example compressed bitmaps. They are listed, but there is no preview or PNG for them.
